Best industries for first year summer internships?

First year at low semi-target here. Was looking at opportunities for this summer and was wondering whether experience in certain industries would look better on a resume compared to others when it comes to sophomore IB recruiting.

For example, Mergers and Inquisitions lists the following as "alternatives" to IB internships for first years:
- Search Fund Internships
- Local VC/PE Firms
- Regional Botiques
- Corporate Finance Roles at Nearby Companies
- Wealth Management
- Corporate Banking
- Real Estate (Brokerage, Appraisal, Lease Management)
- Big 4 or Independent Valuation Firm Internships

Would some of these industries be better suited to support a sophomore IB SA application? If so, which ones?
Thanks!

At a high level it depends on prior experience and any nepotism / connections you may have. A main goal I had with entry level freshman roles was to land something that I can spin into multiple different stories (if I wanted to do IB or other roles). VC and search funds are great because you can get them just by being intellectually curious and they have many applicable learning opps.

With that said, markets are tough and something is better than nothing. As you have probably heard it’s a numbers game so don’t get too caught up in getting the “perfect” summer internship for freshman year.
