Best way to inform contact that you're dropping your resume?

Hey fellas,

The deadlines for summer analyst resume drops are approaching for many of the positions listed with my school's OCR. Thankfully, I've been networking pretty hard this summer, and have a nice list of contacts to fall back on.

I know that when you drop your resume, what you ideally want to do with your networking is to tap your contact on the shoulder and wink wink nudge nudge "take a look at it, would you?"

However, what is an appropriate way to go about doing this? Some of the upperclassmen that I've talked to have recommended pairing my email update with a question, a la:

"Hey Tommy,

I just wanted to let you know that I dropped my resume for the IBD SA position at your firm. I know you were in my position a few years ago -- any advice on xxx?"

I like this idea a lot. However, I can't seem to come up with an effective way to go about doing this without making it too obvious or awkward sounding.

Any advice in this department would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for reading!

Not delusional, but perhaps I didn't word my post well enough. I'm looking for a way to make my "hey, I dropped my resume" come across as natural and not awkward. I'm sure that 99% of the people who are currently analysts/associates have done the same mating dance that juniors are doing right now, so you're definitely right in that it'll be obvious.

No need to avoid being obvious. Just avoid being pushy, demanding, or presumptuous. Your draft email seems sufficiently unobtrusive.

If someone likes you (especially from your school), he'll help you out. If he doesn't like you, he'll probably shoot you down anyway. The whole reason why bankers take time out of their awfully busy days to network with college students is to try to find good ones to hire. So when a good one sends a resume and a note, you try to make sure that kid gets an interview. It's all part of the game.
