Best way to study technicals

I'm certain there have been a lot of posts about this, but was wondering how everyone came about studying technicals -- seems to be a consensus on which guides and books are the best, but wondering if anyone had a particular study method in learning the technicals, i.e. modeling some of it as you learned, reading straight through the guides/resources once, making flashcards etc. etc. curious to know how people learned!
