BlackRock internal mobility: Internship in undesired division
Hey guys, My goal is to work in Asset management or preferably in portfolio managment. Unfortunately, I only managed to secure an summer internship at the Internal Audit division instead of Alternatives Investment at Blackrock. Audit was my safe choice in case I wouldn't get any internships in the UK (I've done an internship in the Controlling division of another firm so it seemed easy to get into). And now I'm stuck with that offer. What would you guys do in my position? Apply for Masters Finance and try get AM internship between graduation and Master or apply for a different department within Blackrock after the Audit internship.
Thanks for your replies (first time posting in WSO)
Hi Bananabreadcrumbs, yes, I'm a bot, but I'm also good looking. Hopefully, these threads help you:
You're welcome.

Don’t think that would be possible
BlackRock as a firm has pretty good internal mobility. That said, this is still a big jump and a big risk. On balance you might decide for the masters. You can do this internship, network internally, and try to line up an internship/grad program in an investing team during your masters.
This is true. However hard to move from audit to investing. I’d still go for the MSc and recruit only for IB or AM if you can.
It may be possible but will definitely take a few years, maybe longer than you’ll be willing to put up with. To accelerate i’d do the MFin or just apply elsewhere at other AMs with their Investment teams. GL!
