Boutique IB Contacting Help

Hi Guys,

I know its already super late, but I'm still trying to secure a boutique gig for this summer.

I have a list of ~140 boutiques with their MD emails and phone numbers. I am wondering how to best go about this and land an offer.

  1. Should I attach my resume in the cold email? I don't have a stellar gpa, so will it deter them from replying?
  2. Should I send them an email to set up a time to talk with no resume attached? I read on here that I should just attach my resume because its already so late in the process, but atleast I will come across as more likable.
  3. I am considering just picking up the phone and straight dialing with no prior email. Is this a good idea? Maybe chat em up and and ask about their experience in the industry, and eventually close the deal...after the phone call, Follow up with an email with my resume attached. It just seems rude to think its ok to call someone at any hour of the day.
  4. Does the city which the office is located matter? Is a gig in Minnesota going to be more easier to secure than NYC or LA? Is there a difference?

If Y'all have any other tips on what I should ask/prepare to talk them about, then please feel free to help.

Thank You.

  1. everyone will have a different answer, i say yes because that's what has worked for me in the past but it may be different as i am in the CRE finance world. Check out this link for advice on cold-emailing https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/cold-emailing-for-internship?pag…
  2. No. Just say something like "I am reachable at blah blah blah @ blah.com along with your phone number)
  3. No, in my opinion cold-calling someone is somewhat rude but again. refer to the link i provided and come to your own conclusions.
  4. Depends on the company but generally yes, NYC companies receive far more resumes than the average company in minnesota but again, i could be wrong.
