Breaking into IB from low socio-economic background
Will be starting my SA stint next year and wanted some advice from those who successfully navigated their way whilst coming from a disadvantaged background.
I attended some networking sessions and personally felt out of place when the subject of hobbies came up and what you do in your spare time, where others mentioned their expensive scuba diving lessons and holiday destinations.
As well as this I also feel like I am not well-spoken enough, if that makes sense ahah. Was looking for advice on how to polish yourself for an environment like this in terms of the way you speak etc. Do not want to be some sort of social outcast when it comes to next summer lol.
Talk about sports, everyone likes sports
Definitely try to improve your speaking habits to become well-spoken. And also agreed with the other guy def sports is a good ice breaker. The gym is another good one. Things to stay away are talking about college generally. If they ask reciprocate but don't bring up your shitty roommate or crazy drunk night just try to be professional
Why people think banking is some type of social club? At the junior level, all they care about is if you can make them money without them checking your work every 10 minutes
If you mean other junior people - their opinion barely matters since 70% of them will probably be gone in 2 years
