Bringing in client as Analyst
I am a first year analyst at an EB (think PWP / EVR / Moe / Laz) in NYC.
My roommates / best friend’s dad from College is the CEO of a Fortune 500 company (around $10bn market cap), and I am a very close friend of the family.
My friend’s dad’s company is the client of another NYC EB, and he has asked me to introduce some of the seniors at my bank (in the relevant sector team) to him.
How should I approach this, and is there a way I can get a slice of the pie if this amounts to a mandate (not expecting an M&A mandate in the near term but maybe some Debt advisory).
Should I just not do anything, or wait till I’m VP so I can try and just take the relationship for myself instead of hand it to some MD who will take all the credit.
Extra information: I am a mid bucket analyst and average performer, and do not work in the same sector coverage group my friends dad’s company operates in.
I’m on the other side of the pond and have literally been dying to find out about this. Also at EB.
I’m in a lean team so I just went for it with my MD and she was happy for me to arrange an intro (still to happen).
Literally no clue about slice of the pie. I guess they’ll tell you to f off and take the street cred for it best case scenario.
Dependent on how your relationship is with your MD, I would bring it up with him and ask if he’s ok with you approaching the relevant sector MD. I also did the same for a potential buyside, just waiting to hear from the other party first.
Thanks for letting me know. Are you An1/2/3? Best of luck with it
Congrats on Moelis. No pie for you as an analyst obv just good will.
In no world will you get any of the fee as an analyst, unfortunately.
