BULLSHIT: Unpaid Internships Requiring School Credit
Recently received an internship offer, but it's unpaid and they require proof of school credit for the internship.
My school's deadline for undergrad internship credits has passed.
I plan on speaking with the career center - assuming that doesn't work, what are my options?
Any advice is appreciated, as I need to move fast on this offer - manager gave me a start date two weeks from now.
Thanks.
Thats tough, it may be possible to apply for credits next semester assuming the internship program is a couple months.
I've heard of people signing up for an internship course at a local community college.
I'll look into this, thanks. However, I attend a City school - most community colleges probably share the same deadlines.
how big of a school do you go to. If your at a LAC then I can say that those kind of schools are generally more considerate. Just tell them that they didn't tell you it required school credit until after you got the offer.
It s great you got the offer which means they prob liked you. What kind of company this is and why do they require school credit, are they afraid that the interns will quit halfway or something?
I think they're afraid of getting sued. It's a large media company.
Was in a similar situation like 4 years ago. Go to the business school administration and talk to the highest ranking person you can. Most of the time its as simple as them just awarding you the credit through their computer portal. Also, being a big time donor or knowing one closely helps. You've got to remember its all about the $ for these guys.
.
my school allowed me to get the credit in the spring, even though I did a fall internship
This happened to me last week dude. My school would not budge. It really, really sucked.
Wow. I'm really sorry to hear that man.
I just took the risk and gave my current employer two weeks' notice.
Wish me luck...
