Can you apply to IBD, ER, etc. for one company?

I've tried to search this with no avail.. Basically I'm wanting to know through everyone's experience if you can apply to different internships within one company. So for example, could I apply to investment banking, equity research, and public finance all at Baird? Or could I only choose one?

Depends, but for most large companies that maintain a good applicant database, if you are turned down by a division because they didn't like you, it'll be logged in the system and your chances will effectively go to zero. If you did well, but they just found somebody better or if there weren't enough positions to go to all qualified candidates, you may still have a chance.

Lemme know if you have any other questions.

I guess I'm just kind of confused about the internship process in general. If I'm interested in IB, pub fin, and ER, would there be applications for SA for each one? Or just one application where I list what fields I'm interested in?

Also, if it was between pub fin vs corp ib, I would choose the ib SA position over pub fin because I feel like I could do pub fin FT with having ib SA if that's what I wanted to do. What if I chose a ib position over ER SA and then decided I wanted to do ER FT? Would ER look at an ib SA favorably or would they just be looking at those with ER SA positions?

Can't speak to the BB internship process as I have a non-traditional background. My big4 buddies did apply to multiple departments for their internships if that's worth anything to you (tax, audit, consulting)

I've had this situation at a couple of BBs before. I'm pretty sure each division has its own HR because none of the interviewers seemed to be aware I was speaking with other divisions.

90% of the time you are limited to say 1-3 choices per recruitment cycle it is generally a negative thing to select more than one division in a same region, unless you have impressive profile or recruiters think that you might have awesome fit for one of your preferences

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.
