Career Change Advice

Hi All,

I’ve been scoping out/considering a change in career to finance from my current career doing Monte Carlo/Statistical Modelling of Nuclear Reactors.

I have a Masters Degree in Physics from the University of Southampton and I got a First. I will shortly become a Chartered Physicist.

I have 7 years of experience of computational modelling in Fortran and Python.

I do not have any direct experience currently in the financial industry.

I have been considering, given these skills, becoming a quantitative analyst/developer - but I have a few questions.

Given the above, would becoming a quant be possible?

Is there a role within the finance industry which I have not thought of, which would be better suited to my skill set?

What are the hours realistically like for a quant?

If you work a hybrid pattern as a quant, how often do you go into the office? Could I work remotely the majority of the time or not?

Any suggestions regarding how to potentially enter this industry given my position would be helpful.

Thanks,

Andrew
