Career change into finance

Looking for some honest career advice about transitioning into a career in finance as a 46 year old former attorney.

Graduated from a state school with non business major. Went to a second tier law school. Worked at a BB doing securities litigation for a 1 year. Then worked on my own for 5 years doing real estate litigation and transactional work. Went to Ivy school to get MA in finance (not MBA). I’ve always been more business oriented than law.

I worked on my own for a few years structuring syndication deals and investments in mortgage distressed debt for group of family office private investors.

I would like to transition to IB or PE in a real estate group. The problems as I see them are age and lack of prior work experience in a IB or PE shop. I have experience with 18 hour workdays, presentations and excel (moderate, not expert) but again, never in IB or PE.

Is a career change a long shot?
