Career options for dual degree in Statistics and Finance in Agribusiness

Hi. I am a sophomore who just finished the school year and have been interning at Corporate Strategy/M&A team for a few days now. I've been preparing a career toward investment banking, but I would also like to have some back-up plans. Could anyone give me advice on possible career option for me (assuming my gpa is 3.45~3.55)? My ideal job function would be using both knowledge, but closely related to Finance. Thanks in advance.

I can assure you that’s not the case. Sure there will always be people that demand a PhD for the quant roles. But there’s A LOT more options to being a data scientist in finance than just being a quant. Besides, with the current toolset, being a data scientist is more about being creative and able to deliver actionable results than it is about straight math. Trust me, if you can program in a modern language and have just a little stats behind you, you should be able to land a data science position.

I appreciate your encouragement. I will probably look into Data Science internship for upcoming summer. Since I just finished my sophomore year, and will be doing extra semester, I have a few internship opportunities left. Then, what would be a good language to learn beside Python and R? Or, should I sharpen my skills in those two languages and DB area like SQL, MongoDB, etc. ?
