Career paths related to economics and the financial markets

I'm aware that this is a very broad question, but what types of career paths exist that combine economic analysis with finance?

My dream job is to be an analyst at a macro shop, but I want to know what other opportunities exist. I will graduate from a top 20 university, majoring in econ/math. No programming skills, but I could learn some before I graduate.

I'm open to something that's not directly investing related as well.

Thanks in advance

Economic consulting, working for a rating agency in some sovereign rating capacity, working for a third party economic research firm (EIU, RGE, CE etc), working for a multi-lateral (IMF, WB etc), sell side economic reasearch, buyside economic research , working for the govt (treasury, Fed etc). A lot look for econ Phds or masters grads, but not all. Have seen someone from every one of these background make it to a buyside macro type research role (though not always at a hedge fund).

@analyst therapist

I'm a second year student at a top 100 school right now. However, I applied to 12 different schools as a transfer. I've been accepted to one and I'm waiting on responses from the rest. They are mostly top 20-30 and include NYU.

@vagabond85

Thanks for the thorough response, that's exactly what I was looking for and I'll research all of those positions.

Can you tell me if most of those people broke it after a couple years, or if it was more when they had been in the industry for 10+ years?
