Chances for Algo trading job after undergrad

Hello Wallstreet Oasis people,

It's my senior year and after reading much information about the industry and a related internship, I think I have made up my mind. My ideal job is in algorithmic trading (Ideally: Getco in Singapore). Now comes the question of my chances AFTER undergraduate. I shall not go into the discussion of MSc vs Undergrad. Instead, I'll just give a quick profile of myself and the justifications for my deficiencies. (This is at no means flaunting what I am, or the lack thereof.)

Math / CompSci major, Top 10 USNews.com college. 3.65. (Perhaps the worst part. : (. Started the seriousness part a little late.) Faculty honors, but school wide. Putnam Honorable Mention. MCM, once honorable mention, once finalist (top 10% I think). Two publications, one is Algorithms, one in PDEs. Not in high profile journal. One iPhone App. One internationally recognized website teaching math. One Internship, trading based. In Singapore so not so high tech compared with US counterparts. (Won't show on resume) Tons of math / compsci grad level classes: Stochastic Calculus, Functional Analysis, Measure theory, Hyper/Parabolic PDE, Parallel Computing, Algorithms, Algebraic Topology, Quantum Information. (Let's just say I like to hang with the graduate students)

What are my chances? Quickly, I thought I got most bases covered. Programming, Internship, Math classes (definitely) and Math competitions. I'm sorely lacking in the pure finance knowledge, perhaps low GPA, and networking. And to answer the question of non-MSc route, I'm kind of old, I don't have another US$50,000 to shell, and I miss Asia and I want to settle down with a job quickly.

Thank you for your time.

Lee

Donny,

Use the search function in the upper right hand corner, there is a plethora of info on the subject, as this question is asked on almost a daily basis. That having been said, your resume looks great. Don't lose faith, you have a great skill set to promote.

In trading, nobody is going to care whether you're 22 or 52. If you have the skills, you will find a place and stick. I see you're not interested in discussing MSc, but let me just point out that you have stellar credentials for a PhD program and that many prop shops and hedge funds now-a-days look at guys with at least a quantitative Masters for the type of role you're interested in.

That having been said, if you can trade and make money, this is the best way to impress any trading firm.

Good luck on your search.
