Chances for MBB: JD/MBA, Triple Major from Non-Ivy League

What are one's chances to land with McKinsey, BCG, or Bain given the following?

  • Attended The University of Alabama for undergrad and grad
  • Triple majored in Finance, Accounting, and Economics with a 4.0 GPA
  • Will complete JD/MBA program in Dec. '15 (Law ranked #22; MBA #58)
  • Developed my own online company during college (Annual revenues exceeded $400k. There's not much future in the industry, and it doesn't suit my interests long-term)
  • Good verbal skills and likeable personality (not too Southern of an accent)

Given the above, do I have a shot with the MBB? I can't imagine practicing law, but I will go ahead and pass the bar. Intellectually, I feel like I can stand side by side with anyone my age in business matters. I've received zero responses thus far from cold emailing MBB recruiters. Any advice or just give up because of my educational background? Thanks!

I think you should network as much as you can with people actually working, not recruiters. Also, if you want to work in banking why not start networking with some M&A people on the law side? If you're taking the bar anyway, that's an option.

MBB are prestige whores and won't like your lower ranked jd/mba degree. If you're not going to practice law then there is no point of getting a JD. You can "intellectually stimulate" yourself through ways other than paying six figures for a degree you won't use. Get some high quality work experience, get into a top 15 MBA program and break in.
