Changing divisions after summer internship

Hi everyone,

I've only got some 20 days left of my summer internship, and whilst I've really enjoyed it, I feel like I want to explore something else. I would like to stay at the same bank, but I want to move into Corp DCM rather than staying in Structured Finance where I am now.

Is this doable? How would you go about doing it?

I'm interning at one of the American BB Investment Banks. Not GS/MS/JPM.

Hello fellow Citi intern. It is very much doable:

1 - Reach out to people on the team you wanna join (ideally seniors and talk to them about it)

2 - Get a return offer (once you have a return offer, everything else is much easier)

3 - FT offer in hand, reach out again to the people you know from the team you want to join and they will get the process moving. You’ll likely have to meet a lot of people from the team to see if there’s a fit. Also, priority will probably be given to people who have interned in the team before and headcount. Should there be headcount and a spot available I’d say you have a pretty good chance of landing a FT on another division.

Good luck and hope you enjoy the rest of your internship:)

Hey, thanks for this! Really appreciate it. I may even move to some other area of structured finance, I'll keep my options open!

I know this is old, but when is the right time to start reaching out to people on the team you want to join?

I think that would fall under the same division category since their both Capital Markets so when you get a FT offer you have to rank your preferences again. What I assume the OP is asking is moving from CM to IBD for instance.

Yes that's right, Structured Finance sits awkwardly between CM & Markets even though it used to sit with CMO a few years ago, so makes it more complicated!
