Changing fields from public accounting

TLDR: First year audit associate at the Big 4, accounting heavy resume, looking to change fields.

As the title says, currently a first year auditor at a Big 4 public accounting firm. Graduated from undergrad in the spring of 2024 with a degree in accounting. College involvement/internships looks great to an accounting recruiter but not for other areas.

Started my role as an auditor this past summer, and I am not a huge fan of the field of accounting in general. I know it's only been a few months, but am not enjoying the nature of the work that I do and it doesn't seem like it drastically changes either as you get promoted or exit to industry. For what it's worth, I'm fine with the culture/workload/anything else, I know I haven't experienced much of the job yet but based on the past few months and my previous busy season internship this is where I'm at.

I've realized that I don't enjoy accounting looks at information retrospectively compared to looking into the future. The classes I enjoyed most in school were those that involved looking into the future using financial data as opposed to being given an event that has already occurred and going from there. You don't actually create much, you just look at work that others have done. I do have an appreciation for the concepts that accounting has taught me and I believe that a lot of what I have learned is useful (i.e. understand how financial statements interact with each other).

Looking to work my way into finance/consulting which are two fields that interest me more. I like the idea of a client-facing consulting role the most but also have an interest in finance. I know I'm not the first person to want to do this, and I thought about it for a while. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't falling for the "idea" of finance/consulting. I already completed my CPA exams, not sure of the extent to which that would help me in roles outside of accounting/advisory services.

As of now it looks like my options are:

1. Try to transfer to an advisory role and go from there

2. Focus on preparing myself for a competitive MBA program so I can re-recruit (downside is that this would take a while before I could matriculate)

3. Apply for entry level roles in the finance/consulting field (not sure how much accounting background/CPA would allow me to be competitive compared to other applicants)

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you for reading my wall of thoughts
