Cold Emailing for an Internship - Be honest, what are my chances...

Hi all,

About me...

  • Junior at Non-target (state school)

  • 3.5 GPA

  • 2 finance related internships - alot of excel, ppt - not neccesarrily directly transferrable to IB though

  • Good on campus involvement - lots of clubs - not on the board of one

  • Treasuer for the hockey team

A few weeks ago, I made a big choice (at least it was to me).

I stopped submitting applications to generic internships - corp banking/finance and completely shifted my focus to getting my feet wet in IB

I rigged up the ol linkedin premium and used hunter.io to gather a ton of alumn at boutiques near me.

Been ripping them out like theres no tm, getting about 5% hit rate, yet I havent got on the phone and therefore, havent locked anythign in for 2024.

I'm wondering if im just way too late, I mean I was shocked at to the reality of IB recruiting, the Freshman year networking, infromation interviews, needing case comps. a sick GPA, all to just get looked at for MM and BB.

heres an example of some of the emails im sending, would love to hear some feedback

Keep your email short and sweet - brief intro about your major/school, mention prior experience, and your interest in learning about their experiences and team at x bank. Lose the quote and rest. Could be useful to attach resume. In my experience they don’t always take a look at it, but on the off chance they do, they have an idea of your background and can ask you some questions which makes it more dynamic and less interrogatory. Could also be helpful to list out your availabilities, not necessary though
