Cold emailing for internship

Hey Monkeys,

For some context, I'm currently two months into my freshman year at a target university and looking to cold email my way into a finance-related internship to put myself in a stronger spot for landing penultimate BB IB internship. Currently have zero finance technical knowledge.

Should I focus on learning some technical skills first (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, transactions and valuations modelling) before reaching out? Or would it be better to start cold emailing right away and learn on the job?

Any advice would be helpful and much appreciated.
