Cold emailing HF and finding HF's

Has anybody tried cold emailing hedge funds looking for an internship? If so, how did you go about it?

I figure there is nothing to lose but the time put in.

Also, is there a site to look up the HF's in an area?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

yea i did it last year i would target smaller hf's (AUM 500 mil probably), the smaller the better if you're willing to work unpaid it makes it a lot easier

i dunno a central source to look up hf's in the area, but you can get pretty far just using google if you can get to the website of a hf, even if no emails are posted, if you can get the name of someone working there you can usually guess the email format (its usually one of a several pretty common ones). if in doubt try every email format.

you're going to get a really low response rate and an even lower interview rate, but if you streamline the process and send out 100+ emails and are willing to work unpaid there's a very good chance you will get something

Make sure you're tenacious and follow-up, definitely go for unpaid if you're not getting any hits.

Also, and people don't talk about this enough here, but get in good with the secretaries and other support staff. They are the gatekeepers to everyone you want to talk to. Something as simple as following up by sending flowers (for a female secretary) saying "thanks so much for talking to me" could land your resume on someone's desk.
