College Recruiting Timeline?

Freshman fall semester just ended, and I haven't landed a freshman SA for 2024 yet. I wanted to ask about the timeline for IB recruiting, given that past threads haven't fully cleared it up for me.

From what I currently know, this is how the timeline works, from someone I know. If anyone knows the exact months for when recruiting typically starts each semester (or if this timeline is even correct), please let me know.

- Freshman fall: Recruiting for SA1 (2024)
- Freshman spring: (Networking?) + Recruiting for SA2 (2025)
- Sophomore fall: Networking, coffee chats in preparation for SA3, ultimately converting to FT
- Sophomore spring: Recruiting for SA3 (2026)

(Also, when to prep for interviews? I believe I'm quite late since I spent the fall semester traveling, tutoring, getting a license, etc., so I haven't done much for interviews yet)

Any insight would be appreciated since this has been on my mind for quite a while now.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the timeline you've outlined seems to be in line with the general trend of early recruiting. However, it's important to note that the exact timeline can vary depending on the bank and the region.

  • Freshman Fall: Yes, some banks do start recruiting for Summer Analyst positions (SA1) for 2024 during the fall of your freshman year. This is typically for diversity and early insight programs.

  • Freshman Spring: This period is indeed a good time for networking and potentially recruiting for SA2 (2025). Some banks may have spring insight programs during this time.

  • Sophomore Fall: This is a crucial period for networking and preparing for SA3 recruiting. Coffee chats, networking events, and informational interviews are common during this time.

  • Sophomore Spring: This is typically when recruiting for SA3 (2026) takes place.

As for interview preparation, it's never too early to start. The earlier you start preparing, the more comfortable you'll be when the time comes. You can use resources like the WSO Networking Guide, Investment Banking Prep, and Behavioral Techniques to help you prepare.

Remember, these timelines are not set in stone and can vary. It's always a good idea to reach out to recruiters or professionals in the industry to get the most accurate information.
