Consulting to Private Equity - Cover Letter

Hi all, first post.

I'm currently working at a life sciences consulting firm and hoping to transition into a private equity role. Anyone willing to take a quick spin through my cover letter below and offer up tips?

Since I'm coming from a consulting background, I don't have the best eye for what would be most impactful from a finance point of view or what the "right thing to say" is. It would be really helpful if you could let me know if you think I'm missing anything crucial, if it's too wordy, if I should emphasize or not emphasize something, etc. Thanks in advance!

My name is XXX and I am currently a Senior Associate Consultant at XXX, a leading life sciences consulting firm. After learning about your firm, I am writing to request that you consider me for any current or future Associate opportunities. I believe you will find my consulting experience and personal strengths to be valuable to your firm:

Deep Knowledge of the Healthcare Sector. At XXX, I have completed ~20 strategic engagements that span a variety of therapeutic areas, including oncology, cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, vaccines, women’s health and animal health. These engagements have given me a keen insight into the sector and its stakeholders. Given your firm’s healthcare portfolio, I believe my experience and genuine interest in the healthcare space make me a strong addition to your team.

Strategic Perspective. My consulting experience has provided me with the strategic perspective and analytical skills necessary to perform due diligence, conduct market analysis and exercise strong business judgment. Additionally, I have employed strong quantitative skills in recent projects to quantify the financial impact of brand positioning strategies and growth opportunities. I am also able to analyze large, complex data sets as demonstrated by my recent analysis of 10-year longitudinal insurance data for >8,000 cancer patients to identify prescribing trends for a >$5Bn oral anti-cancer agent franchise. These skills will prove useful in identifying potential investment opportunities and understanding the strategic rationale behind a transaction.

Modeling Experience. I have extensive experience in building financial and operational Excel models to evaluate scenarios, analyze sensitivities and prioritize strategic initiatives. I have a solid understanding of how to properly structure models and create flexible input and output architecture. Coupled with my knowledge of corporate finance and accounting, my strong modeling foundation and self-study of valuation models will allow me to efficiently build and adjust financial models.

Communication Skills. I effectively communicate with firm senior management and clients daily through multiple mediums. For instance, as the lead client contact during a strategic financial forecasting effort for a co-marketed product, I successfully interfaced with clients across multiple organizations, functions and countries. Additionally, I have honed the ability to use slide presentations to concisely communicate complex analysis, distill data into the most important points and clearly articulate implications and next steps.

I would welcome an opportunity further discuss my qualifications with you and demonstrate my enthusiasm for your firm. I can be reached at XXX or via email at XXX. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
