Corp Fin in NY vs. Micro-boutique M&A internship in Paris
I received two internship offers and I would gladly appreciate your thoughts on which one I should choose:
1) Internship in the corporate finance department of a French CAC40 company in New York
2) Internship as an M&A analyst in a no name micro-boutique (>10 people, specialised in 1 industry) in Paris
My background is the following:
• French national
• Final year of bachelor degree in a non-target French business school
• Intending to pursue a Master in a top UK school (think LBS, LSE, Imperial...)
• Ultimately want to pursue Investment Banking
Having never been to the US, I must admit I am really appealed by the NY offer but at the same time I am considering my professional advancement...
I would say go for the IB offer.
One thought process: "Micro-boutique? Probably got it through parents" I knew a guy who had a lot of decent internships at boutiques/hfs with good deal exposure, but it was so obvious he got them from his parental connections. Didn't receive a single SA or FT offer. Though he's also very up himself and probably couldn't hide it in interviews.
