Corporate Banking Competitiveness & Target Schools
For corporate banking (the banks that have CB under the IB umbrella, Citi and BMO for example), do BB banks get more lenient in terms of hiring from non-target schools? Do non-targets have a higher chance getting a CB job compared to IB, or are the chances the same? With a ton of networking and a higher GPA from a non-target school, would I be able to get a job in CB in the future? Thanks in advance!
You should have a good shot. I’m currently working in CB for BMO and many of the people are from non-Target schools but generally have really high GPA (3.8+) and a lot of activities.

Ok, and do you know where I can find a list of all the places where the CB division falls under the IB division? I am interested in those, and not so much for banks in which CB is under commercial banking.
I think Bank of America classifies it was “Corporate & Investment Banking” (GCIB), so in that case it would be under one umbrella. However, that’s not always the case for all banks. Bank of the West does all of its Resolvers, Term Loans, Credit agreements separately from BNP. It’s only if they need Capital Markets or M&A capabilities where they’ll bring in the IB group from BNP to pitch to the client. The senior bankers from Bank of the West and BNP will work closely together but as much at the junior level.
For job opportunities, you’ll probably have to look at Bank of the West’s website for the application.
