Cringy linkedIn posts

Came across this LinkedIn post of a student who got a spring week.

I thought l'd blown the interview. But X firm called with an M&A Spring Week offer.

In the interview, l'd just finished answering technical questions and was bracing myself for harder ones.

Then they asked: "So what do you do at weekends?"

Complete curveball. I laughed nervously and said I didn't want to sound boring, before admitting that I often start my weekends in the library and sometimes build DCFs with friends for fun.

I immediately second-guessed myself. Everyone says IB interviews aren't just about capability, but about being someone people want to work with during long hours, and I worried I'd missed that mark.

But maybe authenticity matters more than perfectly rehearsed answers. I'm incredibly grateful that X firm saw something in me that I momentarily doubted myself.

Recruitment season is tough. Wishing everyone ends up in places that value them for who they are, not just how polished their answers sound.

Lots of the other spring week participants have these over the top posts, is this like a new Industry standard and I wont be expected to post something like this if I get a spring or summer...right?

Based on the most discussed WSO threads, cringeworthy LinkedIn posts like the one you described are a hot topic, and you're not alone in finding them over the top. Many users on WSO have expressed frustration with posts that feel overly self-congratulatory or unnecessarily dramatic, especially for achievements like spring weeks or internships.

Here’s the deal: you are absolutely not expected to post something like this. In fact, many senior professionals and hiring managers on WSO have advised against it. Treating LinkedIn as a professional networking tool rather than a social media platform is key. Posts like these can come across as self-promotional and may even be judged negatively by potential employers, as noted in several WSO discussions.

If you do want to share an update, keep it simple and professional. For example: - "Excited to join [Firm Name] for a Spring Week in [Division]. Looking forward to learning and growing during this opportunity."

This approach avoids unnecessary dramatics while still sharing your achievement. Remember, authenticity and professionalism go a long way, and you don’t need to follow the trend of overly emotional or exaggerated posts to make an impression.

I think my school has you beat

(Imagine this in the thickest Indian accent possible please)...

I’m not the “it girl” people talk about. I don’t wake up at 7 a.m. for Pilates and green juice. I’m the hustler kind of girl; the one who wakes up at 6, heads to class, squeezes in work between projects, competitions, and meetings, grabs lunch with friends, goes back to class, and then dives straight into late-night grind mode.

Whether it’s research, modeling for a Case Comp, stock pitch, or working through financial analyses, my nights usually end around 2 a.m. and mornings start all over again.

No, it’s not the healthiest routine. But it’s real. It’s intense. And it’s exactly what’s preparing me to enter the world of IB, where every day brings a new deal, a new model, and a new challenge.

Investment banking isn’t glamorous. It’s a hustle. A high-stakes, caffeine-fueled grind that tests your limits, and if you truly love it, there’s nothing more thrilling.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about being the “it girl.” It’s about being the one who gets it done.
