Current State of PE recruiting 2024 -Feb

Making a thread to see which firms have run their processes and which ones havent to see where the cycle is. Been seeing some silence since mid last month and wondering if the recent wave was the last big one or if it seems like there will be another wave of recruiting again this year before on-cycle in the summer for 2025 start

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the state of PE recruiting can vary from year to year, but traditionally, the main recruiting cycle for PE roles has started in the first half of the year. For instance, in previous cycles, it has kicked off around March or April for the following year's associate classes. However, there have been instances where it began in January or February.

Given that it's currently February 2024, if there has been a silence since mid-last month, it could indicate a lull in the recruiting activities. This could be a temporary pause before another wave of recruiting begins. It's not uncommon for there to be multiple waves of recruiting, especially as firms assess their needs and as candidates go through the interview process.

For those targeting a 2025 start date, it's important to stay vigilant and keep networking, as some firms may still be in the process of running their recruiting cycles. Additionally, off-cycle recruiting can happen at any time, so it's beneficial to maintain connections and be prepared for opportunities as they arise.

If you're looking to get a better sense of the current cycle's status, it would be wise to reach out to your network, stay active on forums like Wall Street Oasis, and possibly connect with headhunters who specialize in PE recruiting. They can provide the most current information on which firms have completed their processes and which ones may still be looking to hire.
