Delay start date as a lateral analyst?

So I have around a year of experience and recently receive an IB Analyst 1 offer from a large bank. Given that they only gave me an “analyst 1” title, would they likely approve if I asked about delaying my start date to June 2024, which is when the other “traditional” analyst 1s start (fresh grads). Ideally would like to start with the rest of the analyst 1 class and also have some more time to study for the series license exams before the job starts.

Would it be appropriate to ask hr to delay the start date by roughly 2 months given these reasons and would they likely approve this? Or would it look bad to ask?
Thanks!

They'd definitely be open to this. Reach out to your hiring manager/contact and run this by them. I think you have a good set of reasons for wanting to delay; but I would move forward with the idea that "I really want to start with everybody else, I feel that this would be the more cohesive".

It's generally much easier to move a start date backwards, than move it forwards. So, you're doing it the right way around.

Just remember, that all you can do is ask. Teams have committed to budgets, but are generally much more flexible about delaying---especially given the current macro backdrop.

I offer mentorship if you'd like to have an informal discussion about this.
