Demand Planning Analyst - WHAT IS THIS??
Hi all! I'm new to register here although I've been using WSO as a reference for many months now. I'm asking this question because I couldn't find a definite answer when searching through the forums.
I'm getting hooked up with a local headhunting agency for this position with Sony. It's for a Demand Planning Analyst. I'm not sure what it is or what the job entails, here's a brief explanation of the description that was emailed to me.
The Demand Planning Analyst’s primary responsibility will be executing the end-to-end Supply Chain process, from procurement through the billing cycle. This position will be involved in purchasing, inventory analysis and replenishment of orders for 3rd Party products as well as managing the invoicing and billing process for 3rd Party vendors. The Demand Planning Analyst will be responsible for consolidating and reviewing data including but not limited to purchase orders, inventory position, receipts, and invoices as well as for researching and resolving any vendor payment issues. This individual will also be responsible for other assignments as deemed necessary to support the Demand Planning team’s objectives and internal Supply Chain initiatives.
I'm trying to go the COO route, do you think this position will take me there? I also want to know where you think this position can lead. I feel that an analyst position in finance is the only way to get ANYWHERE in business. I'm not sure if this position deals with anything finance-related, what do you think? If anyone has experience with this, please help me! What do the day to day duties look like? Again, this would be my first job, but I want something that will cater to my future goals of being a COO one day.
Speaking of the COO, I don't even know what it takes to become one!
Thank you for all the guidance you can provide.
It is not related to finance. It is in supply chain management. It deals with trying to predict what kind of purchase orders Sony will get from its customers 3 months from now. e.g. How many TVs will WalMart expect Sony to provide them in 3 months.
sounds like fun gig though
Aspiring is right....this sounds like an operational analyst role within supply chain. I doubt this is within their finance group, but COO isn't either. I'm not an expert on operational career tracks, but I don't think this would hurt as far as COO path.
For what it's worth, jobs like these are good for those who wish to break into ER covering that industry later on down the road, say, after an MBA.
Hmm thank you for all your insight, it has been very helpful! One last thing.. what's...ER? you darn finance guys and your fancy acronyms !
