DESPERATE: Background check help desperately needed

Received pre-hire paperwork for large bank and need to figure out how to proceed.

Paperwork asks: Within the past 10yrs have you ever filed for bankruptcy or been subject of any unsatisfied judgment or lien? Yes/No

If answer yes, please provide further info.

-Was laid off last year and have small credit card judgment outstanding (5k 9/2013) and currently going through a loan modification on an underwater condo with Lis Pendens but no judgment. Have a lien on property for HOAs also (6k 1/2014).

In this situation (please try to spare any other comments) how should I proceed? Is there any hope? What if I am able to raise money and payoff these obligations ASAP? The paperwork will need to be submitted in a couple weeks so there may be time, but if I do pay off these obligations only to have the offer reneged, I'll be in a worse situation than filing bankruptcy. Is filing BK on the table?

This isn't a front office position per se, but is portfolio support.

Honestly, talk with HR about it. Whatever is out there will come out on your background check if they look at your CC reports. Most places do so might as well lay your cards out.

I'm definitely going to mention it. I'm just wondering if I should get the ball rolling by paying these off through borrowing from family or just talk it through? Basically what would you do at this moment, just ask HR what I should do? The recruiter is helping me so I feel I can talk frankly with them, but I was hoping someone might have similar experiences.

I mean if you paid it off before the background check you should be fine, but if you can do it and have it taken off your report in time, that is another question.

I'd just discuss it with HR. They are the ones that are going to make the call on this one, no one else.

Maybe others can comment.
