Did I get dinged - Haven't received any offer
So I was interviewing with an IB for an ER SA position. I hadn't gotten an offer or anything, but after my last interview my interviewer told me that he really liked me and that my chances looked good. He told me to call him back in about 2 weeks to check in and see where my progress was.
So 2 weeks pass, and Thursday night I received an offer at a boutique AM firm, and they wanted me to drive up to meet over the weekend to negotiate the terms. This city happened to be the same that the IB was located in, so I shot my interviewer an email saying that I would be in town, and was wondering if he'd like to meet instead of speaking over the phone. He replied and told me that he was free Sunday and asked me what time I was planning on leaving, and gave him the time (it was early evening), and asked him what time looked good for him.
And that was the last I had heard from him, he never replied back with a time to meet so I just ended up going back to school Sunday night.
I thought I might get an email from him this morning since it was Monday, but I didn't get anything.
Does this sound like a ding? I'm leaning towards that, but it just feels very unprofessional to just leave me hanging like that.
I'm guessing he just got tied up? Or maybe he forgot?
I would have shot him a follow-up if I didn't get confirmation prior to Sunday evening. You should definitely check-in with him and address not being able to meet (i.e. sorry we weren't able to connect this past weekend blah blah), and see if he would be available to speak over the phone or something.
similar situation happened to me. i was waiting to hear back after a few weeks, went to NYC for another interview and asked an analyst to meet up. told HR that I could come in a visit as well, but heard nothing from her. ended up getting the offer anyway. it could be that he just forgot or was extremely busy.
I'd follow up with him, especially since he was interested in meeting you in person (usually you wouldn't reject someone in person if you could do it over the phone). Most likely he got busy and forgot about your email.
In hindsight, speaking sending a follow up email to just confirm the time would've been good.
Although you could have been dinged, I don't think you can come to that conclusion just from this data. People forget about things all the times, especially if they're scheduled on weekends lol.
I have to force myself to remember things not on my outlook calendar.
Just a bit of an update - I emailed him this morning and he got back to me within an hour saying that he was sorry, but he was very busy and forgot. He told me to give him a call anytime today to talk, so I gave him a call when I was done with classes (about 2PM) but didn't get an answer, so I left a message. Didn't hear anything back yet.
