Different Majors
I am an undergrad at the University of Chicago. I'm an Econ major right now, but I'm thinking of switching.
Suppose an Econ student with good GPA, ECs, and interview technique gets a 10/10 rating for how suitable he is for the I-banking/s&t/Asset Management job.
How does a student of each of the following majors with the same GPA (adjusting for course difficulty), same ECs (the same finance- type organisations and leadership positions) and personability at interview rate on the 10-scale?
1) Math: ?/10
2) Stat: ?/10
3) English/Literature: ?/10
4) Public Policy: ?/10
5) Political Science: ?/10
6) Sociology: ?/10
7) Geography: ?/10
8) Physics: ?/10
9) Biology: ?/10
10) Art History: ?/10
P.S. Let's also assume that all these students have done the same elective finance courses e.g. Accounting.
stick with econ.
For IB, just stick with Econ, take some accounting on the side and you'll be fine.
Where is Chemistry?? Biology is useless.
Stick with Econ.
A B.A. in Statistics is a good alternative, imo.
IMO depends on the division (e.g. for IB/Sales something Econ/Social Sciences would be perfect, as they need people who are comfortable with numbers but also can talk to a client. for trading/asset management something a bit more quanty like physics/stats would be preferred).
