Diversify or specialize skills as an analyst?

Hello Monkeys,

I've been pondering this question for a while and thought I would see what others opinions are. I am really interested in two middle market shops for internships: one is a pure sell-side m&a shop and the other does a lot of different services (m&a, ECM, DCM). As an analyst at firm two, I would get exposure to all different services, and then further down the line filter into a niche if I decide to stay that long.

For reference, I don't want to do PE (I would imagine specializing in m&a would be best for this career path), and probably foresee myself going into corpfin/consulting/vc.
