Do employers (especially those on the west coast) know that UPenn is a prestigious school?

Do you think any employers will not know what Penn is or confuse it with Penn State? I would also love to hear feedback from current students and alumni.

Yes.

For future reference, don't phrase anything like this when you're in contact with recruiters. Asking if people know whether a school is preftigious implies that it isn't and a lot of people in finance go to preftigious schools and they tend to get butthurt at any implied slant towards their preftige.

This offensive to anyone who attends Penn state. For the record Penn state has the largest alumni network in the world so chances are some one from a firm in the west coast is from Penn State. You're an idiot for asking this question. Both schools are great schools. Try not to sound like too much of a snob or you'll never be hired.

Hilarious post. Large network doesn't mean much. It's where the network reaches that matters. Penn State isn't really comparable, especially in the world of finance. Don't think anyone here is interested in a network with 10,000 more sales associates and UPS deliverymen. Any reputable firm will know the difference. The people that don't know the difference were the ones who never had the applicant profile to even consider applying to either for colleges and bother knowing what Ivy League means (don't want to sound stuck up so I'll caveat by saying I didn't go to one). Scary thought, though, to have someone think you went to the school with the child molesting football coach.

However, the name "Wharton" might be a bit more obscure for some, so would probably say "UPenn Wharton" if applying west coast rather than "Wharton School at UPenn"
