Instead of negotiating higher pay, I would ask for housing assistance.

You’re a sophomore, realistically you’re not bringing in much value to the firm.

I was in your shoes as a sophomore SA, sometimes you gotta just put up with it and live frugally.

But yeah, I’d recommend asking for a relocation stipend or housing subsidy. Be honest, tell them you don’t think you’ll be able to afford housing and that you’d greatly appreciate some sort of assistance

 

15 an hour is tough - I guess try to just get as much OT as possible considering that you already signed the contract. 

Just try to live in NYU housing / sublet online / share room with someone and go through the internship with the mindset that your there to get experience for an offer at an EB / BB which will pay like 4 times that. 

Should be able to use this experience to get a solid job if you interview this semester using this as expected experience.
