Exit opps for sales in S&T
Where do people exit if they join the sales side of S&T?
Can they be an investment analyst at a HF, or just mostly IR roles?
To trading? F500 role?
Any insights appreciated. Thanks!

I think that you're touching on one of the worst aspects of S&T, very bad exit opps. In the best case scenarios, I've seen someone become a HF analyst or IR person. However, the spectrum of exits extends to insurance sales, home mortgage officer, and retail financial advisor. I've seen a lot more people end up in this bucket than the HF/IR bucket.
You wont want to exit - making 300-600 after a few years working 50 hour weeks…
Yeah, if you're very very good at it. Just like varying exit-ops, I've seen varied earnings for sales guys which also take huge swings on bad years.
For sure….am just saying there are sales people who retired at 50 with 10m in the bank after making 400-1m for last 20-25 years….there’s understandably a lot of discussion around exit ops which makes sense, but most would kill for an S&T role that makes mid six figures without working later than 6 pm, and many days little past 4 pm….
Yeah most people would kill for a role like that....or a role where you're at a tech start-up and make a few million by 28 on the IPO.
In my opinion, when you're considering a career, you need to think about the average outcome, not the right tail of the distribution. Just about any career is awesome if we look at the far right tail whether we're talking IB construction, running a restaurant or even operating porta potties.
The best job is a job which requires no exit oops
