Failed Typical Recruiting. What’s Next?

Hi all, Sophomore here at a non-target. I just got my rejection email for SA2027 IB from my number one choice that was a relatively well known regional bank. It wasn’t a BB/EB but I really did like the people and group there, and was excited for the opportunity but it didn’t end up working out unfortunately.

I’m kind of lost right now. I have seen all these other failed recruiting stories but wanted to get some thoughts. I’m unsure of the timeline regarding the rest of MM and boutique banks. I was also wondering about recruiting for any PE/GE that could be available however I am unsure about those timelines as well.

I have a small boutique IB internship for this summer mostly working on buy-side engagements with the occasional sell side. So I think that should help in getting other roles at slightly larger firms.

I’m really just lost. I worked really hard these past few months and keep seeing everybody else get these offers. Would really appreciate any advice regarding timelines, especially with MM/Boutique firms and any Off-Cycle recruiting. As well switching to recurring PE/GE and possibly investment shops.

Disappointing day but I’m excited to start the new grind.

Never lose hope, there are still a million ways of entering IB. Even if full-time recruiting falls through you can still break in post graduation. It happens way more than people think and if you just stay on top of things its actually not that hard. Plus, everyone thinks that IB PE or HF are the only possible routes unless your a loser which is completely untrue
