Following up after networking

How do you normally keep a conversation going with people after you have the initial phone call with them?

Currently networking for 2023 SA positions and I've been reaching out to a ton of alumni. I know that in order for them to put in some type of meaningful word for me though I'm going to need to keep an ongoing relationship, but I really don't know how to keep the relationship going since it's not like there's anything that I even need to update them with.
