From Cornell Econ to Wall Street

So I am currently a freshman at Cornell, planning on majoring in Econ and my internship begins next week at TIME Inc. in marketing. I accepted the offer some time ago in late February, but since then I've become really involved with the Mutual Investment Club here at Cornell, and want to go into IB.

Unfortunately, my cards have been dealt for this summer, but do you think this will hurt me next year? I feel like I have no shot because my internship this summer is totally irrelevant...how will recruiters take me seriously if I have no relevant job experience whatsoever?

You're a Freshman... The fact that you even got an internship at a place with name recognition is impressive. You'll be fine. Join DSP and hone your resume. You have 3 semesters before summer recruiting starts for you. I wouldn't really bank on getting a BB internship between sophomore and junior year either unless you fit into a protected group and can utilize a diversity program.
