Getting for every internship interview- what to do ( besides jumping off a bridge?)

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a undergrad senior accounting major and am trying to get an accounting internship a midterm firm and so far, no luck. I've only had one crappy accounting internship at a travel agency, which they probably picked me because they needed someone desperately. I am sending out resumes to accounting and fin. Internships and getting called in to interview, but I'm basically getting rejected for every one ( I've interviewed at probably 10-14 firms so far). In fact I just had an interview with NYL insurance for the summer enterprise finance internship and the interviewer appeared to seem as if he was mocking me the entire time and all of the questions were things that I have never been asked about and mostly situational questions, and I doubt it went well based on his facial expression and his reluctance to give me a follow up contact.
I need an internship for accounting by the end of this school year, or else, I'm extremely screwed...Is getting an internship supposed to be this difficult? I am getting very disheartened and feel like I'll be forever trying to get an internship. I tried to go to all the career fairs, but it seems as though you need to have strong social skills to benefit from career fair.

People have told me that I appear to be shy at first, maybe most companies hate hiring shy and non-assertive people?

What are some good ways for shy people to improve in interviewing? I feel like some people are born to be good interviewer while some are unlucky at it. I've tried a few mock interviews, but really doesn't seem to be helping. Any suggestions?

You need to do some honest self evaluation on why you're having such a hard time. No one on here is going to be able to tell you the specific problem you're having. An accounting internship shouldn't be that tough to get, especially if you're not aiming for the Big 4. Shy is one thing, but entry level accounting's not a sales/biz dev role where they're looking for outgoing, people persons so there must be something else wrong. What did the career center say about your mock interviews? Your resume and background must be ok if you're getting interviews so get self critical and figure out what's wrong.
