Good IB group for technical majors?

Hello — I am a statistics major in college and want to go into IB. Are there any particular industry/coverage groups that are a more technical than others? I want to be able to utilize my technical skills in my work. I know that ECM and DCM tend to be less technical/modeling, while Lev Fin has a lot of technical modeling.

In addition, are there some EB’s or BB IB groups that specialize in a lot of technical work?

What are the pros and cons of joining a technical group?

Any input appreciated. Thank you!

If you're looking for more technical groups then you probably want to go to a group that holds the pen on the model. M&A is your best bet. LevFin at some banks do not hold the pen so beware of that. RX also tends to be more technical than other groups. Best to probably target EBs since they run leaner so more chances to hold the model early on in your career and the industry groups do in house M&A. Most BBs will have a separate M&A team and industry coverage team doesn't model.
