got another offer! Update...
So an update on my previous post below, i called the hiring manager to ask for an update, been emailing but no response...couldnt get him because he wasnt in but left a message with his assistant and like shortly afterwards he emailed me saying sorry things have taken so long and asked if we could talk on the phone within the next two days..,.find this strange! Any thoughts?

would appreciate some advice. I interviewed for a job i really want a few weeks ago. following the interviews the hiring manager told me that they are interested and would like me to meet one more person which he will schedule and get in touch and told me that he was aiming to make a decision quiet soon. A week passed and i didnt hear back so i sent him a follow up email but he didnt respond...2 weeks later i emailed HR asking her for an update and she responded saying that they still havent made a decision on the position and that she will be in touch as soon as she hears anything back. another week passed and no response so i emailed HR to enquire and she reponded saying that the last update she heard from the hiring manager was that he was going to get in touch with me directly to give me details. this was last week and still nothing. The thing is that yesterday i got a verbal offer from another company and they told me they will send me the written offer next week so i expect them to want to know my decision by end of next week...
this puts me in an awkward position, my first choice employer hasnt said no or yes and basically i have no idea whats going on there...given these circumstances whats the best course of action...shall i give the hiring manager a call and ask him directly? shall i email HR and tell her! I dont want to lose this opportunity but it could be that the position has been filled and i am waisting my time! but it could also be that there are things holding them back given that she said he will get in touch directly because i would have assumed if it was an absolute no then HR would have told me the news! dont think hiring managers bother conveying bad news to candidates...
what are your thoughst and advice?

Let them know about your other offer and that you'd like to see their recruiting process through before your deadline.
It looks like you are candidate #2 or #3. Sorry to say, but they probably have someone they like more. If the people ahead of you reject their offers it will be given to you. The likelihood of that? I have no clue.

This is a very senior person, the head of the function but I am not sure what this means...
This could really be anything, as you haven't interviewed with that last person.
Only one way to find out: have that conversation with him as quickly as possible.
Make it clear to company A that you have an offer from B. Floppity is probably correct in that they are still looking at other candidates. Having another offer on the table means you are desirable. Make one last push before offer B expires.
Also, keep these communication lines in mind. You will be working with these people every day. If you get along well or are treated with full respect from company B, these delays should factor into your decision.

Be prepared for them to say take B. Happened to me, pushed A, telling them I had an offer from B. They told me take B, they weren't ready to decide.
I haven't told them about the other offer, just called to try and get an update but didn't get the manager as he was busy but then he emailed me shortly saying sorry it has taken so long and saying he will call me to talk. My question was what are my chances provided he wants to talk, would have thought he would have asked human resources to send me a rejection email or so if not interested. I could be wrong just wondering about my chances
