I interviewed for a large investment bank last Fall semester and am interviewing with them again in the Spring semester.
My GPA went down from a 3.9 to a 3.8 (about a .06 drop). I am currently contesting a grade that I think could bump me back up to 3.9. Should I update my resume with my new GPA or go into the interview with the same resume and GPA I had when I was selected to interview and interviewed in the Fall?
I am positive my interviewers will each have a copy of my old resume. Just wondering if this discrepancy would look really bad. Thanks
A .06 drop is hardly a big deal, just go in with your old resume, most people round by that much anyway. It is not like you're manufacturing a lie, you're just going off an old resume. Get high grades this semester to ensure you're back up to a 3.9 and I'd say you're fine.

How are you interviewing this spring again? are you applying for FT?
I disagree that a ".06 drop is hardly a big deal" due to the fact it is the difference between a 3.9 and a 3.8. However, I do agree with the methodology of continuing with your initial resume. You will not be shown the door for using a resume that was accurate at the time you submitted it. You may get asked in interviews how your most recent semester went, but that's probably it.

yeah I'm a bit confused.. when you say "I am positive my interviewers will each have a copy of my old resume," does that mean you already submitted your resume (and it was accurate at the time you sent it)? If so, then don't worry about it. If they are asking you to submit a new resume/application, then I would update it.
OK thanks guys. My only concern is I need to revamp this resume to target a specific group. I have enough work experience in the past that is directly relevant to the group I am interviewing with which I need to add. Therefore, I need to give a new resume to my interviewers at the time of my next interview.
Just want to be careful, honest, but also smart about the effect of a GPA change on my chances at the same time. I do think I will be able to get back up to a 3.9 by the end of this year.
If you're submitting a new resume, it needs to be accurate at the time of submittal. You can decide for yourself if the upside of adding additional accomplishments / experience to your resume is worth the .1 decline in GPA. My personal vote would be that it is, but definitely do not submit an updated resume with an incorrect/outdated GPA.

if you re-submit, update it - if not, don't mention it.
GPA is used as a preliminary screening device - once you've made it to superday, it's not an issue. you're not lying or being dishonest - if they ask you 'have there been any changes in your grades', you tell them the truth.

If you resubmit, certainly you should update it to reflect the GPA change. They've already invited you in, so I don't think a .1 drop is going to ruin your chances. They'll appreciate the honesty.

I recently had a superday for rotational analyst position at a non bulge bracket bank. During the interviews I gave out my updated version of resumes with .1 lower GPA since my grade dropped from the time I applied to the position and because I had made some minor changes in my old resume. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why I decided to do this. Do you guys think that this is a big mistake..? Thank you in advance.. Now I'm terrified despite having 5 out of 6 interviews went well..
.1 wouldn't make a difference unless you're talking about anything under 3.5

I actually did the same, I updated my GPA with a tiny gpa drop. They actually noticed it and questioned me on it and it turned out to be a good story/talking point. I'll be interning for them this summer.

have a superday coming up in a week and have a resume dilemna. The resume I submitted online last semester contains a formatting error that I don't want to be held against me.
I want to reach out to HR with a corrected resume. however, my GPA was .05 higher when I applied online last semester.
Do I have to update my gpa if I submit another resume? In that case, would it be better to do nothing?
Or could I perhaps just send them the resume with the error corrected and explicitly state the resume has only been modified to correct the formatting error?

To start with, I'm from a top-tier college with average gpa hovering around 3.60 However, for this last spring quarter I had some health issues and also attended classes of lecturers who ended up being hard graders after all. Because of this, my GPA dropped from 3.60 to 3.44 ish. The thing is I applied for summer internship position in June but because the newly adjusted GPA wasn't officially out back then, I put in 3.60 as my gpa for the resume. Now, I got a call today that I got through 1st round interview. If I make the 2nd round interview, I'll get the internship. However, if they find that my gpa is like 0.15 lower than what's written on the resume, would it cause trouble? Should I notify them of my fall in gpa before they make their final decision? Any advice would very much be appreciated.
If you have an email contact, I would send an email along the lines of here is my updated resume (with adjusted GPA). The fact that you got past 2nd round makes GPA less pertinent. Just be ready for why GPA lower. My guess is everything for a summer internship will flow through fast, but best to be honest.
You're fine. Just bring updated copies of your resume to the 2nd round and don't even bring any attention to it. If they ask, say that was your GPA at the point of application, before you learned what your new GPA was. It's not like it tanked that much.
First of all, thank you for your advices. Although the internship I'm applying for is not related to finance, it's known for providing great networking opportunities so I really hope to get in (meeting CEOs at events and parties that we are organizing and so on..)
So based on my experience with first round interview, it seems like they are quite good at organizing stuff for interviews...in other words I would actually not have the opportunity to hand my resume to the interviewees..so in that case, I guess I would remain silent until they happen to bring it up (though in reality they won't notice it until they happen to be wanting to verify my resume after they make the final decision..) Basically it is sort of a government-related non-profit organization. Thank you for the tips. I guess I am little too sensitive about these issues as I don't have that much applying experience yet.
