Help me!

Hello,

I am a recent graduate from a non-target school where I studied finance and economics. Following my graduation in May, I’ve recently joined a large financial services firm, where I am gaining valuable experience as a financial operations analyst. However, I'm uncertain if this is the ideal career path for me. Prior to this role, I interned in equity research and as an analyst at an investment holding firm. Unfortunately, both of these regional boutiques only offer internships to undergraduates and no ft roles to recent grads. My experience in these roles has ignited my passion for investing and my desire to pursue a career in equity research, private equity, and/or investment banking, with a long-term goal of breaking into PE.

As I navigate my career path, I find myself at a crossroads and would greatly appreciate insights. Here are a few avenues I’m considering:

  1. Graduate Studies: Should I focus on studying for the GMAT and aim for admission into an elite Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program? This path could potentially allow me to intern in winter/summer 2025 within one of these desired fields.
  2. Networking: Alternatively, would it be more beneficial to prioritize networking efforts? Drawing from my internships and current role, how can I effectively network to secure a position in investment banking, equity research, or private equity?
  3. Internships: Should I consider stepping away from my corporate finance role after securing prolonged internships at a regional boutique? This would provide me with more targeted experience and potentially pave the way for a full-time role in my desired field.
  4. Other Strategies: Are there alternative routes or strategies I should explore to achieve my goal of securing a role in equity research, private equity, or investment banking?

I would appreciate any feedback or insights, Thanks.
