Help pls. Upcoming networking call

I somehow secured a networking call with the head of rates trading through a cold message. This is something I’m genuinely interested in but the issue is I don’t have a complete understanding of the area.

Does anyone have any resources they could point me to in this space so that I don’t come off as half a dumb fuck when I talk to this individual?

Absolutely, happy to help you prepare for your networking call! Here are some resources that could be beneficial for understanding rates trading:

  1. "Options, Futures & Other Derivatives" by Hull: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to derivatives and is a great starting point for understanding the basics.

  2. Piper Sandler's "Interns Guide To Macro": This guide gives a great overview of the business and liquidity cycle and how they impact asset classes. It's a good resource to understand the macroeconomic factors that influence rates.

  3. Variant Perceptions blog and YouTube channel: This resource provides insights into the mind of a top-down investor and how they think about the business and liquidity cycle.

  4. SABR Volatility Model: This is a mathematical model for the dynamics of a financial market containing derivative investment instruments. It can be found at http://www.math.ku.dk/~rolf/SABR.pdf

Remember, it's okay not to know everything. The fact that you're taking the initiative to learn more about the area shows your interest and dedication. Good luck with your call!
