Hired as Goldman MD?
I'm interviewing at Goldman. I'm at a mutual fund company, so we don't have the Analyst/Associate/VP/MD title structure. Our titles just describe your function, so things like Research Analyst, Trader, Portfolio Manager, etc.
Does anyone who works at Goldman know how the firm would approach what title they would give you in a situation like this? Is it just a one off negotiation or is there a standardized practice? Second, how much does title matter within the firm?
you are only hired as an MD if you are an MD elsewhere.
With the limited information given, my guess is that you're looking at an Associate title. If you offer up more about your current job, we may be able to help manage your expectations more accurately. With that said, good luck on the interview!
Dr. Shakalu -- I started my career in the mutual fund industry in 1995. I started out in research and have been a portfolio manager for over 10 years. Since we don't have titles like MD or VP (the title is just a description of what function your perform in the firm), it's hard for me to pinpoint what I should be targeting because the titles are not directly comparable. My best guess is MD, but not sure if that's right or if it even matters. When I look at their fund fact sheets, it just says 'portfolio manager', so that's not helping me either.
An MD who calls himself "Butt Fumble". I love it. Sincerely. I'm not being sarcastic.
double post
Someone who works for GS can probably chime in here better than me. I don't know of people getting hired at GS higher than that without having that explicit title elsewhere. Hopefully I'm wrong and you can nab that spot!
I love the "Butt Fumble" name, as well.
