How do you get into corporate finance without a corporate finance internship?
I got a commercial banking internship for this summer, but I think I want to do corporate finance and it’s too late to change. I would apply for another internship for next summer but the problem is that most places have a requirement of graduating between December 2024 - June 2025 and I graduate June 2024. Am I screwed or should I just lie and try to get an internship for next summer?
Why would you lie? You have an internship - just cold apply to everything online. Reach out to alumni and say you’re interested in corporate finance. I never refer people to my company, but I’ve referred them to speak with former coworkers. I’ve indirectly landed 3 alumni jobs, which isn’t bad considering I’ve only been working 4 years.
I landed a corporate finance job with no prior work history. Look for FP&A analyst if you want to do budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial reporting / ad hoc analysis. $70k first year won’t be too bad.
