How far can connections get you
Can connections and networking overcome a low gpa if you’re from a good school? GPA is only used as a screener to get to first round interviews right, and a connection would theoretically get you past that?
They can get your resume passed through HR to the interviewers but it won’t get you the job unless it’s a high profile connection.
In my first job in finance (IB). MD met a college kid from a non-target who was looking to break into IB. Very normal experience, 2.8gpa (albeit in STEM). MD met this kid while waiting on line at the grocery store, chatted for 5-10 minutes (kid did not know who my MD was or where he worked). Likes him so much, gets him a Superday literally bypassing the initial rounds. He is about to do A2A and was fantastic to work with in my brief time in IB.
Can happen anywhere.
