How has US recruiting been affected for Canadians over the past few months?

I currently attend a Canadian semi-target and have placed at a Maple 8 pension plan's private equity platform for the summer. For Winter 26, I was aiming to recruit into the US.

However, a friend recently had discussions with an MD at an investment bank in NYC and said that they had frozen hiring Canadian interns for the foreseeable period of time. Is this true across the board? Have US-Canada issues reduced the ability to break-in to the US from Canada?

Thanks in advance.
