How to plan to live internationally after my Analyst Stint?
So I will be graduating soon from a strong US semi-target (Duke/Vandy/USC) tier, going into a strong Tech M&A Boutique in a Tier 1 city in the US. I am 22/23, and before I'm 25 I want to move abroad and live in either Europe (UK/Germany/etc) or Singapore for around 2 years. I have travelled a lot and have done international internships before, but I really think this will be the most productive and also developmental period for me to make a move like this. I am an US Citizen by the way.
Do you think pivoting from IB to Corp Dev/Strategic Finance at a F500 with international presence is the most viable route? I am going to grind my butt off for these 1-2 years and stay far ahead on the networking and recruiting to enable me to make this move, but this is one of those bucket list items for me that I am very dedicated to pursue, so before I start my full time analyst role I want to have the game plan in order so that I can always have it as a goal to look forward to. Thanks.
MBA abroad
Is it logical to pursue an international MBA versus top US MBA programs? I keep reading that T7 US programs are mostly unmatched in terms of brand/network compared to international programs. Any specific ones that come to mind? Maybe Oxbridge?
It depends - what for and what path you want to take.
This guy here is specifically asking what he can do to move to Europe. A Euro-MBA can help them land a gig in Europe. I'm sure they can leverage their undergrad connections or undergrad career resources, if they have any difficulties getting a gig back in the US.
I'm no expert but I think the roles you're looking for would need some very specific steps and potential language skills to achieve.
Is your school on the UK high potential schools list? That gives you a free 2 year work visa in London.
F500 corp dev is a great job, but a lot of those US-based firms will house corp dev in the US with maybe a small strategy team in EMEA. Also very firm-dependent on whether they'll move you around (at least within the first 5 years or so) so that's not necessarily a sure thing. One idea is to hit up London or Singapore recruiters. Maybe do a search or start a thread on here.
I wouldn't necessarily pull the MBA route, seems like a waste of time and money if not M7. However, LSE Masters is a bit shorter + very highly regarded and will recruit well across EMEA if you're striking out on recruiting directly.
I am currently living abroad, and loving it.
Where do you live?
