I cold emailed 2 Directors at a MM boutique for ER...here's what happened.

I emailed 2 directors at a upper-level MM firm inquiring about ER positions at their firm. I already spoke to countless senior analysts at this firm and it went tremendously well, so I decided to take it up a knotch.

One of the Directors forwarded my CV to the associate director of research because he said he wasn't hiring in his coverage group and the other director decided to schedule a phone call for 30mins (obviously an interview).

My question is: What should I do from here or how should I prepare? Do you expect this interview to be more technical or behavioral? As I essentially skipped the 2nd round of interviews and went straight to the director (usually the 3rd round for this particular bank).

FWIW - I attached my CV to the email, so they already know what my background looks like etc. I guess if they didn't think I had a shot, they wouldn't have responded.

would really appreciate the input here.

Hard to say as it’s a director-scheduled phone call, not a formal interview.

That being said, I’d prepare for all outcomes. Most likely, I think it would be the director sussing you out. How well do you know your technicals? No way will they drill you down to the bone, but I’d prepare the common stuff.

Did this during my bachelors a few times. usually ended up as an informal interview, mostly behavioural including how did you find me/us, why this address, why this field, what’s your motivation etc. important is to have a red line in your cv and a fitting story. only one grilled hard on technicals, but else it was all about fit. technicals were done by more junior staff in later rounds.

best of luck.
